Cameron Molloy
Was born in Vancouver B.C. And was raised in the West Kootenays, mainly in Nelson. Roots go fairly deep in the Kootenays as his mother settled in the Slocan Valley with her parents and brother and sister in1922.
The early 70's saw the real ease of three singles on SGM records from Vancouver, "Barrooms, Truck Stop" / "Lose the Blues", Sweetheart of the Rodeo/ Game with the Blues" and the political satire "ICBC Blues".
In early 1976, after a government change, auto insurance rates went through the roof. ICBC Blues was introduced the night after it was written it at a concert in Prince George B.C. and it brought the house down. It was recorded soon after in Vancouver and released to the local radio stations. CBC picked up on it as a news item then one of the mainstream rock stations launched a 24 hour protest about the insurance issue and played the song every 15 minutes for 24 hours.
George Hewison
In George Hewison (born 1944) is a folk singer, trade unionist, and formerly a long-time member of the Communist Party of Canada. Hewison grew up in Campbell River, British Columbia selling the party press and joined the Communist Party and the fishermen's union at the age of 17. He grew up in a musical family before television and made his first public performance when his voice changed from soprano to bass in 1960. In addition to his labour and political activism, Hewison has always seen music as an essential part of his life. In 1965 he became a full-time organizer for the United Fishermen and Allied Workers Union in 1973 in BC and became the union's secretary-treasurer in 1977, remaining in the position until 1985 when he left the union to move to Toronto to become the labour secretary on the Communist Party's Central Executive Committee.
TOM HAWKEN
Tom is a veteran of the 1960′s Hootenanny scene. From there he went on to perform in Frank Dowie's touring Barkerville show. Over the years Tom has accumulated songs and melodies from various folk and popular eras. Tom has a larger than average repertoire of labour and union songs.
Steve Gidora.
Both sides of his family were very musical, and Steve received his first mandolin from his Ukrainian grandfather at the age of 10. Since then he has played with many Vancouver artists and served in the schools as a music teacher in Langley, BC, as well as providing vocals, mandolins, guitar in recent years. a passion for song writing. Steve has shared the stage with folk singers such as Ann Mortifee, Charlotte Diamond and his groups have opened for the legendary Pete Seeger and Odetta.
